Paramjit “Perry” S. Kahai, Ph.D., founded NEO IT & Security, LLC (NEOITS) after he realized that the explosion of information technology (IT) left valuable information at small and medium companies vulnerable to damage, destruction, or theft. These attacks can be initiated internally on purpose or without intention, or they can come from an external “hacker.” For example, an unsecured Wi-Fi network can allow someone to potentially access valuable and private information sitting in a firm’s parking lot! Another example is when an employee naively thinks the firewall software installed on his computer protects him from downloading a virus!
While large companies have established and expensive IT departments, small, and to some extent medium, companies do not have the financial wherewithal to create, manage, and maintain one. This is where NEOITS comes in. NEOITS begins by first analyzing the IT systems and practices to identify potential security risks. Then, NEOITS recommends solutions and, if necessary, deploys these solutions to ensure that potential security risks are reduced or eliminated.
Dr. Kahai started NEO IT & Security with the aim of helping small and medium businesses deploy, manage, and secure their information technology resources. He began his academic career as a faculty member in 1993 at Tuskegee University in Alabama. He then moved to The University of Akron in 1999 and taught there until 2007. He holds a B.S. degree in Physics from Bombay University (India), and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Management (with concentrations in Management Information Systems - MIS), both from Auburn University in Alabama. As a consequence of his educational background, Dr. Kahai is in a unique position to bridge the gap between the management and technical aspects of IT.
Dr. Kahai brings to the business experience in teaching and researching a wide variety of topics. He has taught Information Systems Management, Database Management, Telecommunications and Network Management, and E-Business Application Development courses.
Dr. Kahai's research spans a decade-and-a-half and a variety of related topics. For his master's thesis, he surveyed small and medium business about their information security practices. The research was presented in several academic conferences and published in various academic journals. For his Ph.D. dissertation, Dr. Kahai surveyed Fortune 1000 companies to study the determinants of IS decentralization and the management of the IS/IT function. This research, too, was presented in several academic conferences and published in various academic journals. In addition to the above research, Dr. Kahai has presented and published several academic articles that address practical issues relevant to small and medium businesses (SMBs) in topic areas that include e-Business, e-Commerce, Wi-Fi, and Wi-Fi security.
Last, but not the least, Dr. Kahai brings to NEOITS invaluable experience in dealing with issues and problems that business users face in performing their daily computing activities. Over a period of time, he has honed these problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, skills that have been invaluable to him in "getting to the bottom of things" and determining where the real problem lies. He can communicate with, and explain technical matters to, users in easy-to-understand terms. It is the above skills and knowledge that Dr. Kahai brings to bear on the services that NEOITS offers.
In his spare time, Dr. Kahai likes to read, golf, cook, and spend time with his wife and two children. |
